Psalm 87:4 A Diverse People

“I will make a record of those who know me: Rahab, Babylon, Philistia, Tyre, and Cush— each one was born there.”
-Psalm 87:4

Israel has always been the people born in Zion.
God’s people have always been multi-racial and multi-cultural.
Racism (rooted in antisemitism) is evil.
God’s plan has always been to give new birth to all peoples.

(Jesus) “So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

“How can these things be?” asked Nicodemus.

“Are you a teacher of Israel and don’t know these things?” Jesus replied. -John 3:8-10
Being in God’s family is where my identity lies. Having been born a second time, into God’s home, my ethnicity & nationality are secondary now. My ID is God’s child, and I recognize a wide diversity of peoples as my family that I am proud of and belong to.
Israel and the church born out of her have always been multi-ethnic (every tribe and tongue).
A mono-cultural people with a multicultural ministry is not in the Bible. The DNA, the blueprint, has always been a multicultural people (all races).
The day of Pentecost (Acts 2) was a reversal of the curse of the tower of Babel. This is for everybody. Not just for Jews nor just Jews and ‘Gentiles’, but Persians, Greeks, Italians, Ethiopians; and a thousand more groups.
“I was born here, to know God, in this city!” The city of God is where we were born. We are one people, from the Lord’s city. Different ethnicities, but born the same way, into the same one people, by the same one God, to know God! We trace our family heritage this way. -Ps. 87:4
God saves people from every tribe, unlike us.

God is totally multicultural & non-denominational.

Look around God’s town. If everyone is different than you, then you know you are in the right place.

And if everyone is the same as you…

-Psalm 87:4
The church will be racially diverse & we will be a new family, based on our new birth or second birth that happens in the church. It’s like we will say, “I am originally from there, but now I have been born a second time and belong here!” No division. Diversity city. (Psalm 87:4)
The church should be the most multi-ethnic, multi-cultural group of people on the planet. This is a sign that we are real.

“We shouldn’t long for racial diversity—we should long for the proclamation of Jesus, which creates ethnic diversity” -Pastor Derwin Gray, Indian Land, S.C.
